Zimpel / Traczyk / Rasz. The Light, 2008.
"Despite the fact that Wacław Zimpel, Wojciech Traczyk and Robert Rasz belong to the new generation of improvisers with sound academic backgrounds, their search for new musical forms does not only reflect their interest in formally complex European concert music. Their music fascinates first and foremost through the emotional and rhythmic power of jazz.
Unrestrained and at the same time sensuous bass clarinet is reminiscent of John Surman or Michel Pilz whose trademark was the right punch line and mood. It is truly brave and surprising that the trio decided to do without anyharmonic instrument. What may be obvious to a pianist or a guitar player is still quite a challenge for an improvisingclarinettist. This proves how confident and convincing Zimpel's craftsmaship is. It is admittedly greatly supported by is musical partners, the drummer Robert Rasz and the bass player Wojtek Traczyk, all three of them make aperfectly tuned rhythmic section. Their intensive, interactive style dominates the course of improvisation and creates a homogenous sound unimpaired by the absence of harmonic instruments. A good band that can only wish for ample time to work on their musical ideas." (Theo Jörgensmann)
