HI, TERESKA / CZESC TERESKA is a disturbing and deeply moving film. It tells the story of a generation, which lives the moment, has no life goals, does not feel any attachment to the tradition and does not recognise any values. For them there is no "evil" because they don't know the notion of "good". They don't care for life, they just exist...
The hero of the film, 15 years old Tereska, lives like most of Polish families in a big residential neighbourhood with characteristic high buildings. Her parents are average: her fathers likes to get a drink from time to time and her mother is constantly tired, runs to the church and in the apartment watches TV all the time. The girl starts a tailoring school and wants to become a fashion designer. First friendship, first cigarette, first kiss, first love. Tereska feel immensely lonely. She shelters a great need for emotions. She can not fulfil it at home, at school nor among her peers. She dreams a great love. She looses all illusions. She finds some kind of a friendly warmth in her bizarre friendship with a disabled porter, Edek. In his company she is open, is capable of being herself and even sometimes smiles. Edek is lonely too. He sees a woman in Tereska. He can not respect her intimacy and sensibility. Finally, rejected by all, Tereska kills Edek, the only person that was close to her. She commits a senseless crime. This modest, black and white film by Robert Glinski strikes the audience and remains in the memory for a long time.
HI, TERESKA was awarded the Golden Lions (Zlote Lwy), the Journalists' Award and the Golden Claqueur (Zloty Klaker, award for the film, which was applauded the longest) at this year's Festival of Polish Feature Films in Gdynia and the Grand Prix at the International Film Festival in Karlove Wary.
