Wovoka in concert
This soulful ensemble pays tribute to the forgotten spiritual traditions of North American music. Influenced primarily by early blues field recordings of African Americans, as well as the rhythmic melodies of Native American Indian song, Wovoka creates an original sound based on the blend of these traditions and styles
The band has recorded an album of songs by Blind Willie Johnson, which is to be released in the summer of 2012. The programme of their Edinburgh performance features music from the album, old gospel sons, as well as the ensemble’s own compositions.
Kajetan Prochyra commented on this endevour for the Jazzarium.pl site:
Raphael Rogiński should be under police surveillance. The Minister of Culture should have him policed, so the guitar player gets in the studio as soon as possible to record his new music projects in the best conditions possible. I thought I knew that Rogiński is good. I thought that nothing could surprise me that night. But just like every time, with the first few chords, Raphael made it brutally clear to all listeners (as usual, the place was overbooked) that he is very, very, very good.
