Polish highlander music under the baton of Jerzy Maksymiuk at the Grand Theatre National Opera in Warsaw
Listeners are taken on a musical expedition around the Tatra Mountains in a performance conducted by Jerzy Maksymiuk featuring pianist Janusz Olejniczak, the highlander quartet of Sebastian Karpiel Bułecki, the Atom String Quartet, the Meccorre string quartet, percussionist Jan Młynarski and contrabassist Michał Barański. The concert features compositions by Polish master composers Fryderyk Chopin, Karol Szymanowski, Henryk Mikołaj Górecki and Wojciech Kilar and photographs by Mieczysław Karłowicz.
The concert blends together two quite distinct styles - classical and folk, each of which have in turn inspired the other through the ages. The repertoire is a unique perspective on the works of Polish masters, juxtaposed with the contemporary sounds of highlander music and other folk themes.
The performance was previously shown for the first time in Madrid's Plaza de Oriente, as an inaugural event for the Polish EU Presidency in 2011. The concert was performed as part of the "Music Of the Setting Sun" series at the Veranos de la Villa 2011 festival.
The Grand Theatre in Warsaw, the National Opera, and the Agency of Production and Promotion 2T Vision are the concert's producers.
"Voices of the Mountains" concert takes place on the 15th of October 2011 at 19:00.
