The 2013 edition‘s focus will be theatre productions. Over the festival's five days of the festival, performances will feature companies from Poland, Ukraine, Austria and Russia. According to Dariusz Jarosiński, the artistic director of the festival
For the past 20 years the purpose of this event has been to promote and popularize open air theatre in Poland. There are vast groups of young people who are involved in this form of expression, and it is very important for them to have a space where they are able to present their ideas.
Jarosiński adds that the festival constitutes a bridge between traditional, more experience theatres and more unconventional ones – the audience does not necessarily have to go to an institutionalized venue to watch an interesting act and have discussions.
The opening of the Street Art Festival takes place on 29th June in the New Town Square, inaugurated by In Blue, by Warsaw’s Akt Theatre. Later on, the event moves to the square situated next to the Metro station Słodowiec, where from 10 pm the Ukrainian Voskresinnia Academic Theatre will play To Meet Prospero, directed by Jarosław Fedoryszyn.
Some big attractions of the festival include A Part Theatre from Katowice, scheduled for the 5th of July. A Part will present The Land of Gomo, directed by Marcin Herich. Audiences will also be able to get a taste of two companies from Poznań - Usta Usta Republika, presenting A Cycle by Wojciech Wiński, and the Theatre of Evolution of Shadow with Sławomir Dadej‘s The Forgotten Story.
Teatr Formy from Wrocław will perform The Spicy Cook, directed by Józef Markocki, and Piła’s Delikates Theatre plays Pozor už Nemôžem by Wiktora Malinowski. There will also be a parade departing from the Castle Square and marching towards the New Town – it will form part of the spectacle The Sun in the East, the Moon in the West - A Dream of a Midsummer Night, performed by the A3Theatre from Podlachia, directed by Dariusz Skibiński.
The festival will also feature an Austrian company, Theater Irrwisch with Nujork Denzing Kwiin, and the Russian-Czech Teatr Novogo Fronta, which will show Causa Fatalis.
