This is the fourth time that the Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra’s Polish-Turkish concert, featuring works by both Polish and Turkish composers and soloists, is taking place at the beginning of the new season at the Aya İrini Museum. This annual event has been organized since 2011, in cooperation with the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Istanbul.
The Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra (IDSO) is considered to be one of the best in Turkey. It has collaborated for years with many distinguished conductors and soloists, frequently performing works by foreign composers for the first time in Turkey, as well as pre-premieres of Turkish composers’ works. The orchestra has also a long tradition of collaboration with Polish musicians – in recent years its concerts have been conducted by, among others, Marek Pijarowski, Łukasz Borowsicz, Marzena Diakun and Patrycja Pochwała. The list of soloists performing with İDSO includes Krzysztof Jabłoński, Piotr Paleczny and Agata Szymczewska.
In 1996 and 1997, the Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra’s general music director was a Polish conductor, Tadeusz Strugała. He’s one of the most renowned Polish artists in the field of classical music in Turkey. He has been associated with Turkish state symphony orchestras for 40 years, with whom he has performed over 430 times. He has also gained recognition as an educator of a several generations of Turkish musicians and music lovers, as well as popularizer of Polish achievements in the field of classical music.
The concert takes place on 24th October at 20.00 at the Hagia Eirene Museum in Istanbul.
The event is a part of the project of commemorating the 600th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Poland and Turkey. See other events for the project.
