MoMA will host the New York premiere of Wojciech Has’s debut feature film, The Noose (1958), an expressionist portrait of an alcoholic in a difficult place in his life, and How To Be Loved (1963), an intimate piece featuring a famous radio actress struggling with her wartime past.
Annette Insdorf is an outstanding critic and professor in the Film Program of Columbia University's School of Arts. She was also the translator for Polish film director Krzysztof Kieślowski and author of the first book about his work.
She will also moderate the series Reel Pieces in Manhattan at the 92nd Street Y Cultural Center. At MoMA on 27thApril she will present an introduction to Has's films. On the 3rdMay at the Museum of Modern Art the author will have a book signing.
The Wojciech Has event at MoMA is a part of the 13th Annual New York Polish Film Festival, which runs from 2nd to 7th May. This year, the NYPFF is dedicated to legendary Polish director, Andrzej Wajda, who was the Honorary Patron of the festival for many years before his death last October. American director Martin Scorsese will speak during the Opening Night Gala honoring Wajda’s life and works, and then present Wajda’s final film, Afterimage. Newer Polish narrative and documentary films will be shown at the Anthology Film Archives from 4th to 7th May.
The event is hosted by Joshua Siegel of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, in co-operation with the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, under its flagship brand Culture.pl, and the Human Resources Studio.
