The SON((O))SPHERE project explores the relationship between different genres of music (contemporary music, free jazz, noise, electronic and world music) and weaves this into an exploration of the musical landscape of the city in question. Performers use both traditional (acoustic) and electronic instruments.
The performances are also devised from quotations from Karol Szymanowski's "Myth" compositions, including: "The Fountain of Arethusa", "Dryads", "Pan" and "Narcissus".
In Minsk sounds were transmitted live via a microphone set outside the concert venue. Other sounds of the city were weaved live into the musical composition (recorded earlier and played during the concert) and the musical performance was accompanied by special projections relating to the history of the city .
SON((O))SPHERE debuted in October 2009 at the InfoQultura Gallery in Warsaw. The music included sounds from Constitution Square (transmitted live via a microphones set outside the gallery) as well as other sounds of Warsaw that were recorded earlier. The concert itself was accompanied by analog projections by Cinemanual Both the musical composition and the visual artwork formed a unique narrative of Warsaw. Throughout 2011 SON((O))SPHERE will be performed in other global cities with each performance differing both visually and musically, reflecting the different metaphoric landscapes of each urban environment. Szymanowski’s works will be the one shared factor for all performances.
