A scene from Song of the Goat's Macbeth
It is astonishing in so many ways, with A Filetta’s Corsican song in a new arrangement of the ensemble, emotional music played by Rafal Habel, exquisite performances and singing by the actors, picturesque poses, wooden sword combats, the lighting, the set design, and harmonious movement and space.
Following showings of Macbeth in the UK in the autumn of 2011, Henry Hitchings wrote in a review for the in London Evening Standard:
The company’s physicality is dynamic and orchestral (…) there’s an overriding sense of the performers moving as a single unit, its various organs driven by a throbbing heart (...) This is a powerful, original take on Shakespearean tragedy.
Giles Broadbent stated in The Wharf:
This is a genuinely new way to revel in the lyricism of Shakespeare, bypassing the textual intricacies and opting to distil the essence of magic and tragedy into a more visceral brew. (…) Bewitching theatre.
The play's truly international cast includes actors from England, Finland, Scotland, Wales and Poland.
