Posterfor the Polish-Ukrainian Witkacy Project by Theatre Studio “Koło” in Warsaw and Arabesky Theatre in Kharkova
A co-production of Warsaw's "Koło" Theatre Studio and Arabesky Theatre from Kharkov is a performance based on the works by Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz presented in Ukrainian for the first time
Polish directors and composers, along with Ukrainian actors and musicians, have put together "So-Called Humanity Gone Mad", a play based on fragments of dramas: "Mother", "The Cuttlefish", "The Water Hen", "The Madman and the Nun", "The Beelzebub Sonata", "Dainty Shapes and Hairy Apes". Witkacy, as an author of many catastrophic works may hold considerable relevance in Ukraine, a region particularly affected by cataclysms.
Screenings are held in Kharkov, Lviv and Warsaw in spacious, abandoned factories which are transformed into places haunted by Witkacy's characters. The fragments of the play will be simultaneously reproduced in six different areas, giving the possibility of intimate contact with the world created by the writer.
The project also serves as a kind of a workshop. For both Ukrainian actors and directing students this is an opportunity to exchange experience and gain new skills. For the purpose of this project, Witkiewicz's works have been translated into Ukrainian.
The Project based on Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz's dramas has been created by Theatre Studio "Koło" in Warsaw and Arabesky Theatre in Kharkov, co-financed by the Administration of the City of Warsaw, The Adam Mickiewicz Institute.
