Marcin Sendecki
The two Poles take part in Ukraine’s 7th edition of the Kievskie Lavry International Poetry Festival, alongside 100 other poets from Belarus, Russia, Georgia, Germany and the US
The festival is the largest event of its kind in the post-Soviet area, and it takes place in two installments - between the 17th and 21st of May it is hosted by Kiev, and on the 18th and 20th of May more festival events are underway in Kharkiv. Sendecki and Zadura travel to the both cities, participating in reading sessions and talks with colleagues - Sendecki is accompanied by the young poet Sergey Zhadan and Zadura by Bachit Kenzheyev.
The festival’s audio-project entitled Voiced Literature features archive recordings of poets reading their own verses. Czesław Miłosz is one of the programme’s voices, together with an other literary Nobel award laureate, the Swedish Tomas Tranströmer.
The wide range of meetings that are organised in Kiev and Kharkiv encompass discussions on the condition of contemporary literature, the future of the e-book, as well as film screenings, music concerts, and meetings between experts.
