The fifth edition of the festival Różewicz Open Festival celebrates the 90th birthday of the poet Tadeusz Rózewicz, which falls on the 9th of October
The Różewicz Open Festival is the only festival in Poland dedicated to the lives and works of Janusz (1918-1944), Tadeusz (born in 1921) and Stanisław (1924-2008) Różewicz. The event features the most important performances inspired by the works of these literary brothers: "Moles and Paradise Birds" by the Dramatic Theatre from Warsaw and "The Old Lady Sits Waiting" by the Stefan Jaracz Theatre from Łódź. The programme also includes film realisations by Stanisław Rózewicz based upon works by Tadeusz Różewicz. The documentary "Poet Emeritus" is shown as well as the block "Tadeusz Różewicz in Documentaries" directed by Andrzej Sapija.
The Różewicz Open Festival also hosts exhibitions, discussions and recitations.
The conclusion of the third Janusz Różewicz's Polish Poetry Competition comprises a significant facet moment of the festival. The results are announced by a jury composed of: Bohdan Zadura, Ireneusz Kaczmarczyk and Dorota Koman. The winner of the competition will have his debutant volume of poetry published by MDK Radomsko.
The October festival was preceded by the Prologue to the Różewicz Open Festival Radomsko 2011, which took place between the 12th and 14th of June 2011. In that time screenings of "The Card Index in the Theatre of Television" that is Krzysztof Kieślowski's "The Card Index" and Kazimierz Kutz's "The Scattered Card Index" were held. On the 13th of June the citizens of Radomsko saw the documentary "Tadeusz Różewicz's Years in Gliwice" by Krzysztof Korwin Piotrowski. The culminating point of the Prologue was the play "The Card Index" by the Wrocław Contemporary Theatre directed by Michał Zadara with a guest appearance by Jan Peszek. The staging took place in Fameg's hall – Różewicz's old workplace.
The Różewicz Open Festival is the only festival in Poland dedicated to the lives and works of Janusz, Tadeusz and Stanisław Różewicz. The fixed elements of the festival are: theatre spectacles, film screenings, poster exhibitions, theatrical workshops, poetical competitions, meetings with outstanding people and others.
Radomsko is a unique place for the Różewicz brothers. It is here, where they spent their childhood, youth, it is here, were they attended school, here the war found them… It is in Radomsko were Stanisław Różewicz's beloved cinema "Kinema" is located, which as he said had influenced his decision to become a director. The eldest brother Janusz is the patron of the Janusz Różewicz's Polish Poetical Competition. His cult prevails in the entire works of Stanisław and Tadeusz Różewicz.

3rd of October – 5th of October 2011 – Stanisław Różewicz's realisations based upon Tadeusz Różewicz's prose.
3rd of October 2011 17:00 – "Leaves Have Fallen from the Trees" (1975), directed and written by Stanisław Różewicz, based upon a story by Tadeusz Różewicz (97 min.). This psychological war movie for which Stanisław Różewicz received the Main Prize of the Jury and Jerzy Wójcik was distinguished for best photography at the FPFF in Gdańsk in 1975.
4th of October 2011 17:00 – "Loneliness of Two" (1986) directed by Stanisław Rózewicz, written by Tadeusz Różewicz (92 min.). A psychological study analyzing the problem of the lack of inner resistance to misfortune. A story about a pastor and his wife who, after their son dies, can’t return to their previous lives.
7th October 2011 16:00 – "Poems from Paintings" artistic action. 19:00 - premiere of a "The Card Index"
"11 Takes. Tadeusz Różewicz in Elżbieta Lempp's Photographs" – an exhibition of photographs; Elżbieta Lempp – photographer; author of "The Photographical Dictionary" and "Portrait Gallery". She has presented her photographs at many exhibitions in Poland and abroad. The author of black and white portraits of Polish writers such as Stanisław Lem, Wisława Szymborska or Tadeusz Różewicz. She has worked for Tygodnik Powszechny, Rzeczpospolita, Przekrój.
"The Card Index in Radomsko" – an exhibition of photographs by Mirosław Kercz. The photographs come from the famous play "The Card Index" directed by Michał Zadara for the Wrocław Contemporary Theatre. The spectacle was played on the 14th of June 2011 in the warehouse hall of Fameg as a prologue to the Różewicz Open Festival.
J. Dorman's Zagłębie Children's Theatre, directed by Michał Kusztal. "The Card Index" is one of the most famous plays by Tadeusz Różewicz, staged on many occasions in many theatres. In the Zagłębie Children's Theatre adaptation the main character is played by a realistic, human-sized doll.
8th of October 2011 – Results of the poetry competition and theatre performance, along with a poetry recitation of Różewicz's "Falling". Winner will have a volune of poetry published. "Różewicz in the World" an exhibition of posters for foreign premieres of works by Tadeusz Różewicz from Maria Dębicz's collection also takes place.
9th of October 2011 17:00 – reading Różewicz, discussion, film. "He Left the House. A So Called Comedy" - recitation by Tadeusz Różewicz, directed by A. Wieczur-Bluszcz.18:00 – "Brothers" – a conversation about the joint work of Tadeusz and Stanisław. Participants: Paweł Różewicz – son of director Stanisław Różewicz, nephew of Tadeusz. 19:00 – "Poet Emeritus" (2010) directed by Andrzej Sapija (50 min.). A documentary about Tadeusz Różewicz in which alongside the great play-writer and poet, his wife, sons and friends – professor Ryszard Przybylski and Mieczysław Porębski - appear. The main character himself made a proposition that this time it could be a "cheerful movie about the passing of time and old age".
10th of October 2011 – documentaries and theatre spectacle. 11:00 – "Tadeusz Różewicz in Documentaries" – a screening of documentaries by Andrzej Sapija and a meeting with the director. Andrzej Sapija is chiefly a creator of documentaries. Author of tens of films about art and contemporary literature and also films about newest history. His most important works are biographical movies about Tadeusz Kantor, Kazimierz Karabasz, Tadeusz Różewicz and others.19:00 – The play "Moles and Paradise Birds" by the Dramatic Theatre from Warsaw, directed by Maciej Podstawny. The premiere was in May 2011 and the spectacle’s title is a quote from Tadeusz Różewicz's poem. The play itself is an effect of innovative merging and mixing of poems, fragments of dramas and prose by Tadeusz Różewicz from the sixties up to modern works.
