We are oh so Lucky, photo by Pawel Skladanowski
The hail of words (unobvious in a dance project) enters in a direct discourse with the body hopelessly trying to "dance words". And it is hard to say whether "Lucky is being affected by existential anxiety itself, (…) [or] crushed by the media performance."
Harakiri Farmers’ performance, directed by Ana Brzezinska, has been presented on many European stages, but it is still relatively unknown in Poland. The language of dance in this production is inseparable from a dialogic sequence in video art projection. The dancer (Dominika Knapik), echoing Lucky from Beckett’s Waiting for Godot (that is why the capital L in the title), is confronted with the video suspended between melo-recitation and trite dialogue. The hail of words (unobvious in a dance project) enters in a direct discourse with the body hopelessly trying to "dance words". And it is hard to say whether "Lucky is being affected by existential anxiety itself, (…) [or] crushed by the media performance." The half-ironic and half-banal video material, confronted with the dance, evolving from a formal and minimal structure to emotional role-building, disrupt the story, divesting it of any possible fictional frame. The whole is meant to challenge the viewer, his/her perception and interpretive ability.
