Director about the performance:
"Prologue" is a continuation of my explorations in the realm of social choreography. After "The Map" (2010), in which a particular individual physical action was the basis and a community stayed as a distant reflection or utopia, this project takes up at the moment of encounter. Is it possible to acknowledge that this occurrence, here and now, is an encounter? What are the possibilities of social choreography, when it comes back on stage? And cannot "choreography" be understood as a movement of imagination? That is: if the change comes from within, what makes us persist so stubbornly in looking for it somewhere else?
The point of departure for these questions are personal histories, some true, some fictional. All of them related to the act of inscribing oneself into some identity, and to imagining oneself part of a greater whole. As I’m writing it, I don’t know yet which of those stories will remain in the production. Nevertheless this situation in between a theatre production and performative installation is not possible without an audience’s participation. It is partly a contemplation, partly a game. The performance from the beginning to the end.
Plant a stake crowned with flowers in the middle of the square; gather the people together there, and you will have a festival. Do better yet; let the spectators become an entertainment to themselves; make them actors themselves; do it so that each sees and loves himself in the others so that all will be united.
