Białystok Puppet Theatre is going to perform at two festivals in Asia: Kaohsiung Children's Art Education Festival (2013 KCAEF) in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, and Shanghai International Children's Theatre Festival 2013 in China.
Founded in 1953, the Białystok Puppet Theatre / Białostocki Teatr Lalek produces spectacles that feature a variety of techniques - puppets, hand puppets, marionettes and others – as well as the genres of visual theatre, theatre of the object, mask or the classic theatre. It is one of the first puppet theatres in Poland to prepare shows for adult audiences, based on masterpieces of the world literary canon by Boccaccio, Calderon and Gogol.
The theatre will be showing for its Asian tour Microcosmos. Compositions, a show directed by Robert Drobniuch and realized in collaboration with the Podlachia Dance Association. It has been inspired by Claud Nuridsana’s and Marie Perennou’s film Microcosmos. By juxtaposing elements of puppet theatre with pantomime and dance in a poetic manner, and without the use of any words, it tells a story of one day in life of an insect, a creature who turns out to be incredibly simillar to a human being.
The tour of the Białystok Puppet Theatre to Kaohsiung and Shanghai has been coorganized by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute. The Institute was also an organizer of the performance of the same company that took place in front of the Polish Pavillion at the EXPO 2010 in Shanghai.
