Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), 21-27.09.2012
DMZ Docs (DMZ Korean International Documentary Film Festival) is an annual documentary film festival held in the Korean Demilitarized Zone, focusing on the themes of peace, coexistence and reconciliation. This year the festival hosted a special programme of Polish documentaries titled "Polish Docs Special".
The programme included - among others - Lesson of Polish Cinema (Lekcja polskiego kina), a film by Andrzej Wajda released in 2002, comprising the director's recollections and a personal view on Polish cinematography. The event also featured many award-winning documentaries helmed by a new generation of filmmakers, mostly graduates from the Wajda School: North From Calabria (Na północ od Kalabrii) by Marcin Sauter, Andrzej Wajda: Let's shoot! (Andrzej Wajda: Róbmy zdjęcie!) by Paladino Film Production Team, Oh God, Dear God (Oj Boże, drogi Boże) by Julia Poplawska, Paparazzi by Piotr Bernas and 3 Days of Freedom (3 dni wolności) by Lukasz Borowski. The audience had the opportunity to meet the directors Maciej Cuske and Piotr Bernas, as well as participate in a master class delivered by an acclaimed cinematographer Jacek Petrycki (on 23rd September), who introduced his filming technique on the example of two films by Marcel Lozinski: How to Live (Jak zyc, 1977) and Mike Test (Proba mikrofonu, 1980). My Notes from Underground (Moje zapiski z podziemia), a documentary directed by Petrycki, was also screened at the festival.
