The Polish Design: in the Middle of exhibition is to present the works of over thirty Polish designers, design teams, manufacturers and students. It will be the first such extensive presentation of contemporary Polish design in the Netherlands.
The exhibition is part of Dutch Design Week 2014, which takes place between 18-26 October at the TAC (Temporary Art Centre) in Eindhoven, and will be accompanied by a rich programme of lectures. Renowned designers and experts such as Lidewij Edelkoort (special guest), Oskar Zięta, Bogusław Paruch, and Zuzanna Skalska will speak about their work, relationships with Polish design, inspirations, and dialogues with other industries.
Polish design is constantly changing. It moves forward, evolves, and discovers its own new means and methods. It also provokes reflection, seeks for new sources of inspiration, and strives to create innovative solutions. The projects gathered at the exhibition will inform the Dutch audience of the potential of Polish design, and identify the Polish designers’ way of thinking.
The values most appreciated by Poles, such as hospitality, will be reflected in the principles of the exhibition. It will take form of a long table, which is a central point in every Polish home. At precisely such a table, Poles meet for long discussions with family and friends. Following this principle, the exhibition will not only show Polish design’s achievements, but also create a space for joint activities and conversations.
The exhibition will present different fields of design and will be co-created by designers, illustrators, producers, artisans and young companies. The presented works will be divided into four thematic groups: furniture and house, technologies, ceramics and tableware, and toys for children.
At 16:00 on each day of the exhibition, a lecture will be given by a renowned Polish designer, expert or entrepreneur. The lecture programme includes such topics as Polish design’s position around the world, car design, metalworking technologies, and scent design.
The exhibition’s programme also features workshops, presentations and events which will allow the audience to see how active, ambitious, engaged and open to new ideas Polish designers are.
