Two youthful bands from Poland and Hungary come together in a concert at the IH event centre in Budapest to celebrate a day of friendship between the two countries
"Original, tenderly demanding, but also airy and charming" are words used by Anna Szymla to describe the Őszibarack's sound on
muzyka.wp.pl:
The band admit having been inspired by the works of Glenn Miller. Indeed – there is the brass section, jazz and swing licks and certain not too overwhelming splendour. This connected with the electronics and complex rhythms reminds of Matthew Herbert’s madness. Some may consider this similarity a flaw, but let’s face it – few things in this world sound as good as Herbert’s music. (...) there’s much more going on the album. We hear breakneck associations of jazz, techno and electro. There are dancing trumpets, some scratches, some scraping, some buzzing and DJ Patrisia typically twitters, screams and sings. Despite the apparent accumulation of arrangements, ideas and layers the compositions seem to have lots of space and sound light and joyful.
Oszibarack band are:
Agim Dżeljilji - electronics, guitar, theremin, sound production
Dogiel Tom - bass guitar, double bass, electronics
John Mlynarski - drums, electronics
Jose Manuel Alban Juarez - percussion, electronics
Catherine Piszek - vocals
Anima Sound System is a Hungarian electronic band founded in 1993 in Szombathely. The band one of the first and most important Hungarian electronic acts, whose sound is a unique fusion of Eastern-European folk music and modern electronic styles. Their first international performance took place in Vienna at the 1996 Soundsfair Festival where Anima played as the only Eastern-European act, along the side of such bands as Red Snapper, Goldie and Nightmares on Wax. Their remix of the Hungarian national anthem, Himnusz, was released on their Bujdosó EP and aired live from Tilos Radio's New Year party in 2000, then went on to cause controversy in Hungarian media. With rising popularity and a series of very succesful tours across Eastern Europe, Anima Sound System has began to draw interest from Western European promoters including Berlin's Glasshaus and the Parisian Divan du Monde.
The concertof the two groups takes place on Thursday the 22nd of March 2012, at 8:00 pm at the IH Event Center, Szeged, Felső Tisza-part 2.
