The Palais Garnier Opéra National in Paris presents "Balanchine/Brown/Bausch", consisting of three outstanding ballet pieces from the theatre's repertoire. One of the three is dedicated to Trisha Brown's "O composite / O złożony" - a ballet based on the poem "Ode to a Bird" by Czesław Miłosz
O Composite /O złożony is a ballet created in 2004 to music composed by Laurie Anderson. The title of the piece comes from the first words of Miłosz's poem Od to a Bird, which is also recited in its original language during the show.
The performance is a conceptual study that pushes the fusion of different fields of art further than ever before. Focused on the creation of a specific alphabet of movement, a new sort of universal grammar of dance comes alive. Prominent choreographer Trisha Brown chose the piece by
Czeslaw Miłosz for its description of the body and movement of the bird, which compose the stepping stones to the dance routine of the show.
Trisha Brown is one of the key figures of New York's avant-garde dance scene. With the premiere of "O Composite/O złożony" in 2004, the choreographer introduced postmodern dance to the stage of the Opéra Garnier. The event marked a major revolution in the theatre world, questioning its tradition and conventions for both its performers as the choreography itself. The show presents Brown's experimental work on the movement translating the language of poetry, where dance is melted with the words and verses of Czeslaw Miłosz and Edna St. Vincent Millay. Consistently applying her work into conceptual series, Brown inaugurates an unprecedented attempt at mixing classical vocabulary with postmodern language. Laurie Anderson's music answers in echo to that unusual artistic marriage, magnifying the sound of Polish language and tone under a starry sky designed by Vija Celmins.
Strong emotional resonances and a sense of mystery arise from the dancers' delicate actions…provokes thunderous, ecstatic applause.
