The Polish director takes a camera into a fairy talelike place among sexually uninhibited people who want to save the Amazon. Marczak's Fuck For Forest screens in U.K. cinemas, and makes the rounds of the world's hottest festivals
The film, produced in 2013 in locations around the world and premiered at the Warsaw Film Festival in October, winning Best Documentary, is currently touring the world as one of the titillating documentaries of the moment. It enjoyed sold-out shows at its U.S. premiere at the SXSW festival in March, with Time Out Film calling it "A fascinating, timely film" and Variety hailing "Michał Marczak strikes gold". Dazed and Confused website gave it "trailer of the week" status in February. Now it brings the "green porn" idea to the U.K.
Danny, the hero in Fuck for Forest, despises big corporations and doesn’t want to be part of the rat race. Raised in a secure environment surrounded by luxury, he doesn’t want to take any responsibilities. In Berlin, he comes across the controversial organisation Fuck for Forest, whose 1,300 members make pornographic material or have sex in public to raise money for worthy causes. "From the streets of Berlin to the depths of the Amazon", according to the film's synopsis, "together they are on a planet-saving mission to buy a piece of forest and save the indigenous peoples from the sick, sick West".
Mixing empathy with strong imagery to show how the young people rebel against consumerism while depending on the sale of sex, Marczak’s narrative-driven documentary revolves around the group's environmental projects, focusing on sexuality, contemporary lifestyles, western morals and cultural variants in human perception. It is full of scandalous images stripped of aesthetics and romanticism.
