The Festival celebrates the greatest achievements of Polish filmmakers
The thriller "The Mole", directed by Rafael Lewandowski starring Marian Dziędziel and Borys Szyc won the grand prize - Hollywood Eagle - at the Polish Film Festival in Los Angeles. Already having won the jury's selection at the 36th International film festival in Gdynia and both Marian Dziędziel and Borys Szyc already distinguished; Dziędziel awarded at the 2011 International film festival in Gdańsk for his supporting role in the film and Szyc awarded best actor at the World Film Festival in Montreal.
The Festival's opening gala night presented the already distinguished docu-drama "Black Thursday" by Antoni Krauze at Hollywood’s legendary Egyptian Theatre on the 11th of October.
The ten-day-long celebration of Polish Cinema presented a series of recent features, short films, animations and documentaries that offer a provocative look at Poland today. Films featured included the award-winning "Erratum" by Marek Lechki, "Essential Killing" by Jerzy Skolimowski which won best film at this year's Polish Film Festival in Gdynia, "Holy Business" by Maciej Wojtskszko, "Little Rose" by Jan Kidawa-Blonski, "The Mole" by Rafael Lewandowski, "Venice" by Jan Jakub Kolski, among others. All screenings are with English subtitles. There are also opportunities to meet with the Polish filmmakers and actors.
To celebrate the 100-year anniversary of Marie Curie-Sklodowska winning the Nobel Prize for chemistry the Festival presented "Madame Curie" by Mervyn Leroy. Tadeusz Konwicki's "Valley of the Issa" was presented in celebration of Czeslaw Milosz Year.
The Polish Film Festival Los Angeles was founded in 1999 by Vladek Juszkiewicz. Juszkiewicz is also the Festival's Director since its inception. The Festival in Los Angeles is organised by the Polish American Film Society.
The 12th Annual Polish Film Festival in Los Angeles took place from the 11th of October and ran through the 20th of October 2011. Subsequent screenings took place at the Laemmle's Sunset 5.
