Krzysztof Kieślowski’s Three Colours trilogy and "The Double Life of Veronika" is being screened in Brussels at the Flagey’s Studio 5
In an attempt to promote Polish cinematography abroad, the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, together with the royal CINEMATEK of Belgium and the Polish Institute in Brussels, are screening several films by Kieślowski, one of Poland’s most renowned filmmakers.
Kieślowski graduted from the well-respected Łódź film school in 1968 and put out his debut film – a television documentary entitled "Zdjęcie" / "Picture" – a year later. Krzysztof Kieślowski worked for the Documentary Film Studio in Warsaw for several years, producing fictional and documentary films as well as stage shows (including "Dwoje na huśtawce" / "Two for the Seesaw”, 1977). For his directorial work, Kieślowski earned many awards, including a Felix fro the European Film Academy. Throughout his career, the filmmaker lectured at universities in Katowice, East Berlin, Helsinki, Switzerland and Łódź. In 1990, Kieślowski was granted honourary membership of the British Film Institute in 1990 for his “exceptional contributions to moving pictures” and, in 1995, he became a member of the Academy in the USA.
It was in 1991, with "The Double Life of Veronica", that Kieślowski and his previous works – including the "Decalogue" – garnered international recognition. In 1993 and 1994, the Pole released his world-renowned Trilogy: "Three Colours: Blue", "Three Colours: White" and "Three Colours: Red".
