Katarzyna Przezwańska (born in 1984) studied painting, yet today she creates images within the urban space. Jakub Banasiak, founder of the Kolonie Gallery, describes the artist's work as a reference to modernism that is nonetheless quite contemporary:
Katarzyna Przezwańska refers to modernism, but does so in a way hitherto absent in Polish art. At first glance, the artist's modernist take is no longer an aesthetic fetish, but the picturesque ruins of a fallen utopia which trigger a nostalgic journey on the concrete-gray land of one's childhood. Her work is not just another critique of the project of modernity as an attempt to recover some of its assumptions for the present. She composes a multi-coloured, highly individualised space, filled with details and objects. In a light-hearted manner, Przezwańska argues that what was a truly revolutionary art movement - modernism - was swiftly superseded. Katarzyna Przezwańska holds an artistic potential which cannot be ignored.
Exhibition open between January 29 - March 5, 2011.
