All of the performances which will take place during the Hidden Door Festival in May 2015 will be recorded, and the resulting films will be screened at the Royal Scottish Academy in August 2015 at the festival’s summit in Edinburgh.
Researchers at Dundee University searching in the Richard Demarco Archives uncovered a hitherto unknown film (of exceptional quality) of an entire performance of Kurka Wodna / The Water Hen (1972), with additional footage before and after, including Demarco in conversation with Tadeusz Kantor. This is the only film of the full performance of The Water Hen in existence. The RSA will showcase the aforementioned film in the Royal Scottish Academy from 25th July to 5th September 2015.
Demarco actively supported Cricot2 activity at three Edinburgh Festivals 1972, 1973 and 1976 and helped Tadeusz Kantor and his theatre to establish their international reputation.
The premiere of the film of The Water Hen will be accompanied with an exceptional exhibition of Demarco’s private photographs taken during staging of the play and of images from the collection of Dundee University.
The event is co-organised by the Royal Scottish Academy, Demarco Archives, Dundee University and the Adam Mickiewicz Institute.
