"Sopot Makes Art for The City of Brussels" is a joint artistic project consisting of an interactive public installation. A multi-hued array of flowers create Julita Wojcik's piece of "The Rainbow" - which travels to the European Parliament in Brussels later this year
Over one week artist Julita Wojcik, together with volunteers from various professions - labourers, florists, doctors, artists - will work shoulder to shoulder to create components for the "The Rainbow" project. 15 thousand artificial flowers are to be mounted onto a mental wire to create a colourful rainbow. Each day of the week is designated to a different colour of the rainbow. The 26th of July - red flowers, the 27th July - orange flowers, the 28th July - yellow flowers, the 29th July - green flowers, the 30th July - blue flowers, the 31st July - purple flowers.
"The Rainbow" is part of the "Fossils and Gardens" project in Brussels. The idea of the project is to relate to the notion of a united Europe, and draw on common traditions. This presentation should go beyond the popular stereotypes of Poland and the Poles and highlight the bright side, our sense of humour, practical impracticality, self-deprecation and, against all odds, our openness and optimism. What the artists hope to do is to share the fruits of their labour with the inhabitants of Brussels.
It is also within the framework of the project entitled Off Centre/Poza Centrum which embraces a series of artistic and performance actions whose 'central figure' and scenery is 'Kamienny Potok' residential block located in Sopot at Tatrzańska 2 street, in the vicinity of railway track and major artery. Young artists present their works during a series of concerts and video shows - Open Source Art.
On the 30th of July the project presents the sound - constructional's happening by Jacek Niegoda. A concerto for quartet: 4 drills and 27 holes entitled "Everything Summit". Within the framworkd of 'OPEN Source Art' (OSA) which is a presentation of the most interesting niche music and video projects which were created with the use of open source software tools.
"Sopot Makes Art for The City of Brussels" takes place at ul. Tatrzańska 2 in Sopot from the 26th of July and runs through the 31st of July 2011. "The Rainbow" will be installed in front of the EU Commission building on 17 September 2011.
