Jazz and Experimental Music from Poland (JEMP) in its third year is gaining fast reputation for its groundbreaking presentation of the next generation Polish contemporary music. Taking place at various East and North London venues including the Vortex Jazz Club, Cargo and the ICA, JEMP will host Poland’s most provocative musicians with a darker tone, incorporating disquieting elements of ambient music, while keeping with the festival’s tradition of encouraging new artistic forms and approaches.
As festival director Katarzyna Sobucka has announced; “JEMP brings together a wide range of different musical genres to appeal to a variety of tastes and we hope people will be encouraged to discover new sounds as well as widen their musical horizons.” The festival programme primarily encourages international artistic collaborations and possesses a repertoire of jazz, classical, improvised and commissioned work, alongside a series of additional events from exhibitions to workshops, residencies, soundwalks to talks and field recording sessions. Included is a screening of Filip Dzierżawski’s Miłość (Love) 2012, on 30 November 2013 at 1:30pm at the Rio Cinema. Dzierżawski’s documentary explores the life span of the phenomenal jazz band, Miłość, active between 1988-2002 established by experimental musicians Tymona Tymańskiego, Mikołaja Trzaski, Leszka Możdżera, Jacka Oltera and Macieja Sikały.
