The exhibition presents a broad survey of the renowned designer's works. Posters for movies, theatre, galleries and museums.
'Janek had an absolute sense for colour. He mixed and mingled - as the best cooks mix their spices, he mixed his paints, which alone were nothing but together gave a chord of colours, worthy of the greatest masters. Because he was a grand painter', wrote painter and illustrator Józef Wilkoń about the master, going as far as to say that he did for colour what Bach did for sound. He received many awards and honours including: a Gold Medal at the 8th International Poster Biennale in Warsaw (1980), 9th Polish Poster Biennale in Katowice (1981) and 5th Poster Biennale in Lahti (1983). Between the years 1955-2000 his works have been presented at some 50 individual exhibitions in Poland, Austria, Czechoslovakia, Finland, France, Japan, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Italy and hundreds of group exhibitions.
Jan Młodożeniec is an outstanding representative and co-founder of the Polish poster school, author of many notable works of this genre of art, graphic designer and illustrator. His pieces, full of colour and with a peculiar sense of humour, promote cultural events, films and theatre performances. The exhibition is made up of the artist's best posters from 1955 to 2000 - the year he died.
Piotr Dąbrowski, a collector of Polish posters, is the initiator and curator of the exhibition. All of the works come from his extensive private collection.
Opening: April 14, 2011 at 18:00.
The exhibition runs through May 6, 2011.
