Behind the Poster is the first comprehensive documentary film of the internationally influential Polish School of the Poster, established in the late ‘50s. The documentary will be followed by a Q&A session with Jan Bajtlik.
The film features Polish artists, such as Jan Lenica, Jan Młodożeniec, Franciszek Starowieyski, Waldemar Świerzy and Henryk Tomaszewski, who developed individual stylistic approaches in the face of Communist rule. While Communist authorities hindered their ability to speak freely, they communicated vivid messages through poster art.
The film was written and directed by Marcin Latałło, a Polish director, screenwriter and actor. Educated in Paris, his first significant work was a short documentary Trace (Ślad), devoted to his father Stanisław Latałło, one of the key figures of Polish filmmaking in late ‘60s and early ‘70s.
Both the film showing and exhibition are organized by Agata Drogowska of Polish Filmmakers NYC.
The event is supported by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute and Culture.pl.
