Ivo Pogorelich, whose controversial interpretations of Chopin's works have stirred a great deal of talk in critical circles all over the world, performs in Białystock
Called a genius by some and a scandalous rebel by others, he's also referred to the great loser of the
10th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in 1980, defeated by Vietnam's Dang Thai Son.
All the scandal has led to stardom. Martha Argerich's protest after his elimination from the Warsaw Competition in the 3rd round also helped draw him into the spotlight. Since that moment the pianist's career has soared. Pogorelich's performance at Carnegie Hall in 1981 was pronounced sensational and launched his collaboration with the world's best orchestras in London, Chicago, Boston, Vienna and Berlin. His contract signed with the Deutsche Grammophon record company resulted in several dozen recordings.
In Białystok, he performs
Fryderyk Chopin's
Piano Concerto in F minor Op. 21 accompanied by the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Marcin Nałęcz-Niesiołowski. For the second part of the concert the pianist will play Hektor Berlioz's Fantastic Symphony Op. 14. Adam Rozlach, a music journalist of the Polish Radio will prede the performance with an introduction.
The final concert of the Chopin Year celebrated in Białystok with the participation of Ivo Pogorelich takes place on December 17, 2010 at 19:00 at the Concert Hall of the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic.
