The Grassomania event series brings together a range of artists from all disciplines at the Günter Grass Gallery in Gdansk. Consisting of installations, video, photography, painting and ceramics, all the works presented refer in some way to the theme of longing in the works of Günter Grass
As part of the third edition of the series, artists who come from Tricity, but today work in other parts of Poland or the world have been invited to talk about their desires and longings. Anna Baumgart, Dobke Malgorzata, Agnieszka Korejba, Aneta Regel Deleu, Jaroslaw Fliciński, Marcin Kalinski, Thomas Sliwinski, Christian Tomaszewski all struggle with their particular forms of expressions, wrestling with anxiety and their subconscious, where these desires and longings are trapped. The curator of the exhibition is Maria Sasin. The exhibitions are accompanied by film screenings, art workshops for children which ask what they really want to be when they grow up, concerts and performances focused around the mythical beings of dreams and fantasies, even fears.
The artists try to find answers to the following questions: What is desire? Is it an unfulfilled dream that frustrates a person? A force that compels one to explore needs and fascinations? Is it sadness and regret for that which will never return?
Grassomania also presents a performance by Raphael Dziemidok, which explores the symbols of man's inner world, where dreams and fears mingle with sleep. An external installation - a neon by Anna Baumgart - refers to a huge desire for freedom and equality in speech and expression, while recalling the fascination and longing for something distant and unknown.
The exhibition runs between the 16th of December, 2011 - 29th of January, 2012 - 4G / Gdańska Galeria Güntera Grassa, ul. Szeroka 34/35, 36, 37, ul. Grobla I 1/2
