Paris' Fête de la Musique hosts a special folk-inspired concert from the Warsaw-based band Village Kollektiv and Polish-French singer Aldona Nowowiejska
As part of the ongoing Polonia. Des Polonais en France depuis 1830, Aldona Nowowiejska, a Polish singer and actress who resides in France, performs a repertoire of poetic songs that reflect her Eastern European folk heritage. She performs in Polish, French, Russian, Laponian and Greek.
Nowowiejska's act is followed up with a concert from the Village Kollektiv, a group established in 2002 by members of other alternative, folk-inspired bands - Masala, Kapela ze Wsi Warszawa and Swoją Drogą. The band presents a unique fusion of electronic sounds with original instruments and song. The traditional origins of the band's music are united with a digital scale that gives way to a new sound space in which music which was historically popular is reintroduced to contemporary audiences.
The event has been organised in cooperation with the Polish Institute in Paris. It is part of the Cité nationale de l'histoire de l'immigration's exhibition devoted to Polish history and culture.
