The Dock’s Docs Gdańsk Remix contest award ceremony screens winning submissions, and the event crowns the closing ceremony of this weekend's European Culture Congress.
The remix contest was organised in cooperation with the French Institut National de l’Audiovisuel (Ina), and was open for submissions from February until April 2011. When Poland took over the EU Presidency in July, archive historical recordings were released. The recordings which capture crucial historical events from the Gdańsk Shipyards, spanning between the late 1980s up until the present, came from the vast archives of Institut National de l’Audiovisuel, Video Studio Gdańsk, the Gałuszka/Jurkowski PGR_Art laborers duo, and the Polish National Audiovisual Institute. Anyone with acces to the Internet was able to create their own narrative, employing old recordings and documentation, normally hidden away in archives.
In mid-June, an international jury composed of Nick Holdsworth (United Kingdom), Mathieu Gallet (France), Ryszard W. Kluszczyński (Poland), Zbigniew Rybczyński (Poland), and Wilhelm Sasnal (Poland) picked three winners of the contest. Damiano Ascenzi, Tomasz Wolszczak and VisualHijack were awared the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize, respectively. The winners will attend special training courses at the Institut de formation en audiovisuel & multimédia (Ina SUP) in Paris.
