The festival features over 400 events in 70 locations in its four-day schedule. A team of international organizers carefully selects over 300 artists and young talents to perform at the concerts. Even without stars or big names, the festival is able to attract over 20,000 attendees annually. One of the greatest successes of the event is its role as a business marketplace. The Reeperbahn Campus draws around 3,000 international professionals with its conferences, showcases, meetings, matchmaking sessions and special events. This year’s Reeperbahn Festival (17-20.09) will feature performances by Anthony Chorale, Bokka, Olivia Anna Livki and Kamp!.
Bokka is a trio which deliberately keeps their identity a secret. They're from Poland, there are three members, their debut album was released last year, and the band was founded a year before – that is pretty much all one can say about this electro pop band for sure. At the Reeperbahn Festival, you can try and finally have a look at who is behind the mysterious band called Bokka.
Anthony Chorale is the project of Olivier Heim, a Dutchman currently living in Warsaw. Incorporating a cascade of chorusy guitars and slap delays, Olivier’s smooth vocals are combined with groovy bass lines and cosmic synthesizers, resulting in modern songs that feel like a cool dive into the surfy, souly sound of the 60s. He has previously performed at festivals such as Primavera Sound Festival, Liverpool Sound City, The Great Escape, Europavox, Tallinn Music Week and MIDEM.
Olivia Anna Livki has a weakness for music legends like the Velvet Underground and the Talking Heads and she adores movies by Stanley Kubrick, Woody Allen and Quentin Tarantino. She's evidently influenced by these idols – she sometimes performs in a Kill Bill-style jumpsuit – but on her debut album The Name Of This Girl Is you can hear elements of hip hop and African drums. Livki plays a bone dry bass, has an extrovert's voice and with her wild and energetic shows, she could be one of this year’s Reeperbahn discoveries.
The songs of the trio Kamp! are perfect for a light, summery dance, but also incorporate the tougher sounds of London dance pop. Tomek, Radek and Michal have an unerring ability to create sing-along melodies. On their debut album KAMP!, there are multiple earworms like Cairo, Lux Lisbon and Can’t You Wait. Expectations for Kamp!’s second album are definitely high.
