Elżbieta Szmytka finished the Krakow Academy of Music, where she studied singing under Professor Helena Łazarska. Currently living in Belgium, the Polish soprano had her debut career at the Royal Opera in Brussels in 1984. Since then, Szmytka has sang on some of Europe’s largest stages including, the Staatsoper in Vienna, the Grand Theatre in Geneva, the Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam, the Dutsche Oper in Berlin, as well as at festivals in Salzburg, Aix-en-Provence and Glyndebourne.
Smytka has performed under the baton of John Pritchard, Sir George Solti, Simon Rattle, Sir Neville Marriner and more. The singer recently recorded Karol Szymanowski’s “King Roger” with Simon Rattle for EMI.
The Brussels concert, taking place on a Monday evening at La Monnaie, includes Fryderyk Chopin’s Nocturnes, Karol Szymanowski’s “Children’s Rhymes op. 49”, and Mięczysław Karłowicz’s “The Prettiest Songs Op. 4 for voice and piano”.
Elżbieta Szmytka will be accompanied by Levente Kende on the piano.
