The young artist's video installation explores the character of a controversial Socialist Party activist of the past through the eyes of his dedicated son in the present
Anna Senkara's Szlachic / Nobleman tells the story of Franciszek Szlachcic (Francis Noble) through the eyes of his son, Roman Szlachcic. The videoinstallation presents a moving portrait of a son honouring his "genius father" - a well-known socialist party activist and high-ranking official of the Secret Services in the time of the People's Republic of Poland. The father's past is relived and glorified withitn the setting of his former residence in a former suburb of Warsaw. The underlying juxtaposition of the historical role of Nobles throughout Polish history and the evolution of that role through political and economic circumstance provide a meaningful double layer to the work.
Anna Senkara was born in 1981 in Warsaw. She completed her studies at the Polish Language and Literature Department at Warsaw University, as well as the Sculpture Department at the city's Academy of Fine Arts within the Studio of Audio-Visual Space under the direction of Grzegorz Kowalski - receiving an Honourary Diploma. Last year she received the second prize in the Samsung Art Master competition, receiving a prize for her documentary film Teraz (Tryptyk) / Now (Triptych).
Curator: Julia Leopold.
The show runs between December 10 , 2010 - February 20, 2011.
