Andrzej Bart will meet with his German readers in connection with the release of the German translation of his book Fabryka muchołapek"/ "Flycatcher Factory. The meetings include screenings of the film Reverse by Boris Lankosz, written by Bart
Bart's series of meetings culminates in Cologne, which from March 16 - 26 is celebrating litCOLOGNE, the biggest European literary festival. Here, Bart will present his book "Fabryka muchołapek", translated into German by Albrecht Lempp, and published by Schoeffling & Co. in February.
Fliegenfängerfabrik poses some of the most vital questions of our times and the times of the Holocaust: What is the responsibility of someone who holds lives of many others in his power? Does power, when faced with extreme conditions, have to become absolute power? Can the rule of lesser evil be ever justified, especially when human lives are involved?
The extreme political conditions and the totalitarian spirit return in Bart's script for
Borys Lankosz's
Reverse (2009), a black comedy set in Poland in the early fifties at the peak of most repressive Stalinism. The script of the film was later refashioned by Bart into a novel.
