The Polish pianist has already performed with such esteemed orchestras as the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Münchener Philharmoniker, Norddeutscher Rundfunk, the London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Concertgebouw, Boston Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and NHK Symphony Orchestra.
This time, he will perform with the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra. Together they will present “Pacific 231, Mouvement Symphonique No. 1” by Swiss composer Arthur Honegger, “Piano Concerto No. 3” by Hungarian piano virtuoso Béla Bartók, and Igor Stravinsky’s “Le Sacre du Printemps.”
Anderszewski was 6 years old when he began playing the piano. He later studied at conservatories in Lyon and Strasbourg, as well as the Academy of Music in Warsaw, and the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He perfected his skills in master classes in Italy with Fou Ts’ong, Murray Perahia, and Leon Fleisher.
Anderszewski’s 1990 performance of Ludwig van Beethoven’s “33 Variations in C Major on a Waltz by Diabelli” at the International Piano Competition in Leeds led to his debut at the Wigmore Hall in London and paved the way to an international career.
The pianist is the subject of several documentaries, including “Piotr Anderszewski. Travelling Piano,” directed by the French documentary filmmaker Bruno Monsaingeon. In 2009 the film was awarded the prize in the category “Best Portrait” at the Montreal Film Festival.
