Leszek Możdżer and Krzesimir, Randy Crawford, Joe Sample and Joe Lovano are a few of the international jazz music stars set to perform in Wrocław at this major musical event
"Randy Crawford has worked with some giants on the jazz scene, while Sample is a pianist who has maintained a consistency of style throughout his whole career", states Igor Pietraszewski, a member of the festival's artistic board.
In turn, Zbigniew Czwojda - also on the board - says of Lovano, "he represents the benchmark of tenor saxophone playing, and his appearance in Wrocław will act as the start of his European concert tour this year".
The 47th Jazz on the Odra festival will also feature a concert by the European Jazz Ensemble. The group is comprised of some of the finest musicians in Germany, France and England. Polish trumpeter
Piotr Wojtasik also makes an appearance with the group.
Leszek Możdżer and Krzesimir Dębski perform a collaborative project.
As is traditional, the festival commences with an open competition for individuality in jazz. As artistic board member Wojciech Siwek points out, the competition concert has been the main part of the festival since it first started running. "These days it is not, comparatively speaking, the most significant concert of the event, although we do attach a great deal of importance to it".
This year, the competition's organizers have received twenty-four applications. They include soloists, ensembles, and a choir of seventeen singers. Nine of the original twenty-four have made it through to the final.
The festival closes with a big band concert entitled "Polish Jazz Gala", led by Czwojda, and featuring performances from singer Carmen Moreno, guitarist Jarosław Śmietana, pianist Wojciech Karolak and trumpeter Piotr Wojtasik.
