His career in game development started in late 2005, when he answered CD Projekt RED’s ad for development coordinator. During the development of the first Witcher, he became a producer. Before that, he was working at an IT company’s helpdesk, and he also organised big LAN parties. In an interview with Culture.pl he said:
Many creators calls game development their dream job, they say that they were destined to work in that field and that they had always wanted to do that. That’s interesting to me, because I got that idea only after seeing that ad for CD Projekt. Sure, I did work with computers before, I studied cybernetics, but I had no idea that this was the field that I’d end up in.
During Witcher 2’s development he was mainly responsible for PR and marketing. After its release, Gop moved from CD Projekt to another studio – CI Games. The studio firstly dealt with low-budget FPS games and flying simulators, but before Gop’s arrival they had already released their first AAA-title Sniper: Ghost Warrior. Tomasz Gop joined CI Games in September 2011, when they were starting work on Lords of the Fallen. The title, co-created with German studio Deck13, is an action RPG and was released in October 2014 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Nowadays, he is working on the sequel, and has a Twitch stream called Losers, where he interviews other game developers. He says that he treats these discussions like a sort of educational material that is a little bit more to the point than traditional lectures.
