A vocalist, composer, lyrics writer, guitarist and teacher. She is a graduate of the Faculty of Jazz and Light Music at the Academy of Music in Katowice. Stańko cooperated with the blues band Dekiel, with which she had a concert tour in Germany and appeared at the Rawa Blues Festival in Poland. While still at the Academy, she set up her own female band For Dee, where she sang, played the guitar, wrote music and lyrics.
Along with Olo Walicki and Maciej Grzywacz, she formed a jazz ensemble 0-58 and recorded the album Do dziesięciu, which was nominated for the Fryderyk Music Award in 2001. Since 2004 Stańko has also been performing and collaborating with various artists. As a result, she recorded the album Secretly, which is a tribute to Peter Gabriel and a collection of his compositions arranged for a jazz band by Stańko. Her latest CD, Kropla Słowa was also a great success. It is comprised of musical interpretations of poetry by masters like Halina Poświatowska, Dorota Szatters, Tomasz Jastrun or Wisława Szymborska. In 2012 the album was acclaimed Album of the Year by the critics from Jazz Forum magazine. The same year Stańko’s weekly radio broadcast on music brought her the title of Personality of the Year, awarded by Radio Gdańsk. Simultaneously to her artistic activity, she also works as a lecturer of jazz and vocal performance at the Academy of Music in Gdańsk.
