Warsaw, 24.09.2012
As a part of this year's Warsaw Autumn - International Festival of Contemporary Music, special concert featuring music by contemporary Chinese composers was held on 24th September. The concert was another event organized jointly by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute and the Beijing Modern Music Festival, in cooperation with the Warsaw Autumn Festival and the Polish Composers' Union.
In May 2011, concerts of the New Music Orchestra (Orkiestra Muzyki Nowej, OMN) and the Lason Ensemble were held as part of the Beijing Modern Music Festival, while in autumn Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing hosted concert and master classes by the Szymanowski Quartet and a musicological conference "Karol Szymanowski and Polish Music of the Twentieth Century".
This time, as part of the Warsaw Autumn Festival, we presented four pieces by contemporary composers associated with the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, representing two generations of Chinese artists. All composers had been invited by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute to participate in person in this year's edition of the Festival. The concert was performed by the New Music Orchestra (Orkiestra Muzyki Nowej), an ensemble which participated in the Beijing Modern Music Festival in 2011, performing works by contemporary Polish composers, including two pieces (by Marcin Rupocinski and Jakub Tomasz Opalka) commissioned especially for the festival.
