A production directed by Łukasz Garlicki; premiered at the Dramatyczny Theatre in Warsaw on February 19th, 2004
Yevgeni Grishkovec's ZIMA / WINTER will be the newest production to premiere at the Dramatic Theatre in Warsaw. This production of a play by a writer who is a cult figure among Russian thirty-somethings has been put together by even younger artists who only recently graduated from theatre schools.
Grishkovec is currently one of Russia's most popular authors. His brand of muted, sentimental theatre that sometimes ventures into the grotesque has managed to win over audiences throughout Europe. Grishkovec's works include JAK ZJADLEM PSA / HOW I ATE MY DOG, ZIMA / WINTER, and MIASTO / THE CITY. He was linked for years with the Teatr Loza (Box Seats Theatre), appearing there in one-man shows of his own authorship. He has additionally appeared on stage and lead workshops in Bonn, Berlin, and London. WINTER is the story of two young soldiers who are left alone to man their posts through a freezing, deadly night. This absurd situation serves as a metaphor of the absurdity of life in general. The night is made more unusual by the periodic appearance to the soldiers' eyes of the fairytale character Snowflake, who heralds the arrival of Grandfather Frost. This production is directed by Łukasz Garlicki, a recent graduate of the acting department at the Theatre Academy in Warsaw who is now a student of the directing department. The production features: Agnieszka Roszkowska, Marcin Bosak i Łukasz Simlat.
