Stanisław Bereś is a literary historian, critic, essayist, and translator. For his newest offering, he interviewed some of Poland's most outstanding contemporary writers, representing all generations and literary genres. The group includes some classic names (Milosz, Rozewicz, Lem, Brandys) and well-established writers of the older generation (Kapuscinski, Grynberg), as well as writers like Stasiuk, Gretkowska and Tokarczuk who have garnered the greatest praise in recent years. Beres's probing style of questioning and the openness of his interlocutors have helped to produce a book that constitutes a fascinating, lively description of Polish literature – the classical and the avant-garde.
Stanisław Bereś is a professor of Polish language and literature at Wroclaw University, editor of "Telewizyjne Wiadomosci Literackie" / "Television Literary News," and a member of the jury for the NIKE Literary Prize. He has published numerous translations and critical sketches, as well as a collection of interviews with Stanislaw Lem (1987).
