Antoni Krauze’s Smolensk is a drama from 2016 which tells the story of a journalist trying to determine the cause of the presidential aircraft crash in Smolensk.
Smolensk is a drama with elements of thriller and disaster cinema, directed by Antoni Krauze, the author of Black Thursday.
On 10th April, 2010, the Polish Air Force plane Tupolev Tu-154, carrying the President of Poland Lech Kaczyński and 95 official delegation members headed to Katyn, crashes in Smolensk. All passengers are killed instantly. The tragedy causes a lot of disturbance in Poland and across the world. Nina, a reporter working for a large private TV network, tries to find out the reasons behind the disaster. The leads point to, among others, Lech Kaczyński’s dramatic visit to the war-ridden Georgia, where he attempted to prevent the August 2008 invasion of Russian troops on Tbilisi. With each passing hour of her journalistic investigation, Nina becomes increasingly convinced that the truth is much more complex than one would initially think.
