This Capsule Collection for autumn/winter 2016 draws inspiration from the works of a group of architects from 1980s Milan.
They were called Memphis and were led by Ettore Sottsasa. Joanna Wawrzyńczuk translated their designs into fabric such as cotton and neoprene, on prints and trim as well as white leather boots and Plexiglas jewellery.
The designs are simple and sporty with a dominant graphical element. The colour palette is strictly limited to black and white. There is no kitsch and joyfulness, typical for the Memphis group. Yet there is plenty of her beloved abstract forms, her sense of humour, flat decorations, and geometric jewellery. The shoes for the collection were designed in collaboration with her colleague Piniak and constitute an artistic joke about ‘white boots’. The collection was presented at the Warsaw Calling exhibition during the London Fashion Week, International Fashion Showcase 2015.
