A play written by Enda Walsh and directed by Marcin Wrona; it will premiere on January 23, 2004, at the Rozmaitości Theatre.
Another new production under the "Teren Warszawa" / "Terrain Warsaw" project, UWIĘZIENI / BEDBOUND by Enda Walsh, as directed by Marcin Wrona, will premiere on January 20th at the Stolarnia Rehearsal Room of Warsaw's Rozmaitości Theatre. Warsaw theatergoers already know BEDBOUND as a text; the Rozmaitości Theatre presented a staged reading of the play two years ago under its NOWA DRAMATURGIA / NEW DRAMA series of meetings.
Enda Walsh is one of Ireland's most popular young playwrights. The author's international career began for earnest in 1998 when Thomas Ostermeier mounted a production of Walsh's DISCO PIGS in Berlin. A disturbing story about a pair of Irish teenagers, DISCO PIGS was staged in Poland at the Teatr Stara Prochownia Theatre and the Rozmaitości Theatre.
BEDBOUND, the next text from Walsh, has been well received throughout the British Islands. Productions were mounted at the Edinburgh Festival and the Royal Court Theatre. In the play, Walsh tells the story of a toxic relationship between a father and daughter, who are condemned to be with each other and struggle to regain control over their lives. In doing so, they create an imaginary reality that slowly becomes their prison.
