A Journal of Return / Dziennik powrotu consists of two parts: the first is made up of sketches in the form of a diary, and was written in Mexico on Rancho La Epifania. They were written when the author was already beginning to think of leaving Mexico and returning to Europe. The second part, titled "Kraków", contains sketches which Sławomir Mrożek wrote after his return to Poland. They form an attempt to come to terms with the - for Mrożek - new reality, as well as to unite experiences which originated in worlds that were so distant from one another in both time and space.
Sławomir Mrożek (b.1930) is probably the most widely performed contemporary Polish playwright both in Poland and abroad; in Poland, he was one of the country's most widely read writers for many years. His work has been translated into a dozen languages.
