THE CHORUS OF WOMEN | CHÓR KOBIET
Marta Górnicka of the Warsaw-based Zbigniew Raszewski Theatre Institute has created modern tragic chorus made up of women of various professions and ages who shout, sing and whisper to create a new voice for the female experience
The score is based on the text of Sophocles' Antigone, along with the works of Barthes, Foucault, Simone de Beauvoir, everyday language phrases. Górnicka strives to revive the tragic dimensions of drama that were brought forth by the classical chorus and transform the voice into an instrument of expression. The show is a theatre experiment across the realm of memory, music, voice, sound, gender, identity, contrast and protest. The show traveled around Europe and Asia this year as part of the cultural programme of the Polish EU Presidency.
