A theatre director who formerly studied under Krystian Lupa.
In 1996, he assisted Krystian Lupa on the staging Thomas Bernhard's The Siblings. As a director, he debuted in 1998 with The Form based on Fiodor Dostoyevsky in the Stefan Jaracz Theatre in Łódź. Later, he staged Sophocles's King Oedipus in Łódź, Sławomir Mrożek's The Butchery in the Old Theatre in Kraków and Arthur Miller's The Witches of Salem, also in Łódź. From his collaboration with Lupa, Brzyk learned how to work with actors and his antipathy for cheap theatrical effects and an excess of means. His stagings are concentrated on psychological motivation of characters and a thorough analysis of the literary material, which results in the choice of texts: Dostoyevsky, Sophocles, Miller and Mrożek.
Another feature he took over his master is the way of creating the scenic world; growing entirely in the director's imagination. That is why Brzyk, just as Lupa, usually designs the sets himself, sometimes even chooses the music himself. He tries to create on the stage a full, internally coherent reality. 'Remigiusz Brzyk has an intuition for the choice of the cast and he knows how to consequently build the relations among his characters', wrote Olga Katafiasz, a reviewer, about Brzyk's latest staging, The Three Sisters in the Old Theatre in Krakow.
Brzyk knows how to choose them [the actors], lead them, help them create real characters. He is faithful to Czechow's texts, the abridgements are slight. But each scene is full of interesting, surprising situations, he knows how to give each of them an appropriate temperature, how to fill each glance and each gesture with meaning.
