Birds Are Singing in Kigali is a story of the meeting of two women: a Polish ornithologist (Jowita Budnik) who conducted research in Rwanda on the topic of a dying bird species and a young girl (Elaine Umuhire), a professor's daughter, with whom the Polish woman works with. When in 1994 Hutu commence the Tutsi massacre, both women manage to flee Africa. After the arrival to Poland, Anna tries to help her charge in accomodating, but the young girl wants to return to Africa, so that she can bury her close ones who were murdered.
